Late Eagles Rally Earns Dramatic Draw in Basingstoke

Eagles staged a remarkable late comeback on the road to secure a 4–4 draw against the Basingstoke Buccaneers in a thrilling contest that went right down to the final minute.

The visitors started strongly and were rewarded early in the first period when Elvis Egle (#44) opened the scoring at 5:53, giving Eagles the early advantage. The Buccaneers continued to press and eventually found their equaliser at 12:16, sending the game into the first intermission tied at 1–1.

The second period saw momentum swing between the two sides. The Buccaneers edged ahead with goals at 31:57 and 36:47 to take control of the game. However, Eagles kept themselves within reach thanks to a second goal from Egle (#44), who struck at 39:33 to narrow the deficit just before the end of the period.

The Buccaneers restored their two-goal cushion early in the third period, scoring at 40:38 to make it 4–2. Eagles then faced a difficult spell when Az Khalid (#47) received a four-minute penalty for tripping and abuse of an official, forcing the team to defend hard while short-handed.

Despite the setback, Eagles responded with determination. Their pressure paid off when Captain Matt Salisbury (#96) scored a power-play goal at 51:13 to bring the visitors back within one.

With the clock winding down and pushing for an equaliser, the Eagles pulled the Goalie for the extra skater. The decisive moment came at 59:18, Ewan Clarke (#18) delivered a perfectly timed pass to Captain Matt Salisbury (#96), who finished confidently to score his second goal of the night and level the game at 4–4 in the final minute.

The late goal ensured Eagles left Basingstoke with a hard-earned point after showing resilience and character to battle back from a two-goal deficit.
